Choosing a good password for your UP Webmail account:
Don't use other information easily obtained about you(example: phone numbers, employee number, etc).
Internet access has been restored. The recent loss of connectivity was due to another fiber cut in Globe's network (official report from Globe below):

‘LOS’ alarm was monitored at Ermita facing Manda.
A re-route was immediately implemented to facilitate the restoration.
Circuit was restored at around 1752H as confirmed by HQ/Rose.
In the meantime, field engineer was deployed to isolate the problem.
A fiber break was detected 40.214km from Ermita ODF facing Manda.
The FOC cut was later located along Sta. Ana area.
Alarm cleared-out at around 2247H after the re-splicing of the damaged FOC segment was completed.

Unofficial reports suggest a major network outage in Globe Telecoms affecting multiple circuits, possibly due to a fiber cut. The exact cause is still being ascertained.

Our upstream provider has reported that the Globe Telecoms link is down. This has already been reported to Globe and we are waiting for a report from them as to the cause of the outage and the estimated time to resolve the problem.
Testing daytime YouTube access (22 Jan 2010)
We are currently testing if YouTube access during office hours can be supported by UPD's bandwidth. Kindly be advised that the usual schedules (YouTube access from 5pm to 8am only) may resume once the tests are over.
Testing daytime Internet access from dorms
We are currently testing if full Internet access from the dorms can be supported by UPD's bandwidth during the day. Kindly be advised that the usual schedules (dorm Internet access from 5pm to 8am only) may resume once the tests are over.
UPDATE: Internet access restored (18 January 2010)
Internet access restored around 0945am today Monday. Cause of the interruption was a fiber cut in Globe's network, around 7km from their Mandaluyong node.
Internet access may initially be sluggish as systems start to recover from the outage.

Globe Telecoms, which on our upstream path to the Internet, reported last night that their fiber-optic cable was cut somewhere along the Aurora - Mandaluyong path. Consequently, our Internet access is currently down. Globe has not provided an estimated time to resolve the problem, but we will continuously follow this up.

Please be informed that the USEB, in a referendum held on 8 to 11 January 2010, agreed to adopt the Revised University of the Philippines Diliman Student Election Code, which was submitted by the 2008-2009 University Student Council (USC) chaired by Mr. Herminio C. Bagro III and endorsed by the 2009-2010 USC chaired by Mr. Titus CK Tan.
This information has already been relayed by the USEB in a meeting with the Colleges Secretaries, who are the Chairs of the respective Colleges’ CSEBs, on 11 January 2010,
The Revised University of the Philippines Diliman Student Election Code replaces the previous University Student Election Code, which was promulgated through Executive Order No. 6 signed by then President Emmanuel V. Soriano, dated 15 August 1980, and a subsequent revision which was implemented in 1988.
Additional Rule for the 2010 USC Election Concerning Graduating Student Candidates
Students who are either graduating at the end of the Second Semester of the current Academic Year 2009-2010 or expect to graduate at the end of the Summer term 2010 or the First Semester of the Academic Year 2010-2011 and who plan to file certificates of candidacy in the 2010 USC election are subject to conditions approved by the University Student Electoral Board (USEB) on 14 December 2009. There have been new reports of users receiving emails, supposedly from the UP webmaster, asking for passwords. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO SUCH EMAILS. This is a scam called phishing, and is designed to fraudulently obtain sensitive information such as passwords, usernames, identities, or credit card details, typically for online criminal activities.
Similar emails have been circulating lately, masquerading as inquiries or instructions from Yahoo!, banks, Internet service providers, eBay, or other commercial entities. We strongly discourage users from replying to such emails. If you wish to contact your commercial provider to confirm the authenticity of the email, do not use any of the information provided in the email in question -- use published contact numbers or those which appear in your billing statements.
May we kindly reiterate: We will NEVER ask for your password.

You can now login at https://mailc.up.edu.ph (available inside DilNet only) to see all the quarantined spams for your account. Once logged on you will see a list (if there's any) of all the quarantined mails. You can force the delivery of a quarantined mail to your account if you believe it's tagged incorrectly by clicking on the green arrow on the right side of the message.
